Cattle prices slide
THERE were approximately 1200 export and 470 young cattle penned representing an increase of 420 head week-on-week. The usual buying group was present and operating selectively in a cheaper market. Quality was limited in the grown with a lot of weight in places. There were some excellent cattle suit ed to the trade in the young draft although many were showing the effects of the Sum mer. Trade cattle slipped 30c to 60c/kg and more on some isolated sales. Grown steers were in short supply as bullocks lost 45c/kg. Manufacturing steers gave back 30c
to 50c/kg. Cows slipped 20c to 40c while heavy bulls eased 10c/kg. Vealers sold from 280c to 450c/kg. Yearling trade steers made between 370c and 440c/kg. Yearling heifers to the trade sold between 310c and 400c/kg. Grown steers and bullocks made from 376c to 410c/kg. Heavy Friesian manufacturing steers sold from 275c to 306c with the crossbred portion from 285c to 386c/kg. Most light and medium weight cows made between 160c and 280c/kg. Heavy weight cows sold mostly between 248c and 300c/kg. Heavy bulls made from 268c to 330c/kg. Market reporter: Brendan Fletcher.
